Generally regarded as a moderately challenging route, it usually takes around 3 hours and 6 minutes to complete. Ideal for birding, hiking, and running, this trail offers a serene experience with limited encounters with other hikers. The best times to embark on this trail are from March through October, but please note that dogs are not allowed. This scenic path stretches from the Merrill Cave parking area to the western boundary of the monument, meandering east to west around Whitney Butte, treating you to breathtaking views of Mount Shasta and the Callahan Lava Flow.
