NOT your mother’s Jane Austen…

When the Klamath River Amateur Players announce a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, the play’s stage manager, Sam, has her hands full with a colorful array of community theatre misfits. There’s the pretentious, wannabe director who is sleeping with the egotistical writer/choreographer/leading lady (of course he cast her as the lead!), a scorned diva, an overlooked veteran, the kid whose therapist told him that theater would be a good place to do his rehab/community service and the cute, new guy who didn’t audition (because there are never enough guys to audition) but got the lead.

Never mind that the adaptation doesn’t feature any of Austen’s actual words and that they’re still missing an actor to play Wickham, the show must go on and Sam is there to see that it does, in spite of all the drama happening off stage. This whimsical ode to theatre features jazzy original songs, oversized characters, and bottomless creativity – from chaotic auditions to the climactic show within a show (featuring a tap-off and an authentic pirate battle, of course), bad theatre has never been so good.

Whether you have read all of Austen’s works (or none of them), this musical – filled with witty heroines, dashing gents and preposterous plot – is sure to make you swoon.
