Hike

A hike to the Cinder Cone, also known as the Black Cone. This short hike, if the road is clear, 2-3 mile round trip, is just south of Lava Beds. There is a rough and steep trail, and you will likely want poles. The loop around the crater and the summit can be very windy and cold. A hat, ear muffs, gloves, and a jacket may be desirable. I, Bill, will lead. Meet in the KCC parking lot south of Building 4 at 9:00 AM. To reach this parking lot from South 6th DO NOT turn into the main entrance to KCC, continue right, past the traffic signal, and turn right into KCC. Immediately turn right again and after the One-Way road turn right into the parking lot. People who have completed their Covid vaccinations may want to carpool to Lava Beds. We should arrive at the Lava Beds Visitor Center between 10:00 and 10:15. Be sure to bring your Senior or Annual Pass, without a pass admission is $25.00 per car.
